My Teaching

I have taught across all three years of undergraduate study, and on postgraduate programmes, and am particularly passionate about introducing students to forms of analysis, theories, and critical frameworks they may not have encountered before, and giving them the tools to interrogate how they think about performance. For example, it's a genuine joy to introduce students to feminist principles such as Cixous' écriture féminine, or Judith Butler's theory of gender performativity, and see them begin to grow their understandings of theatrical performance and the world around them!

I also teach voice and text in practical workshops, specialising on how the form and structure of early modern text can help actors in performance. That is not to say the skills I teach only apply to Shakespeare! The ability to understand how text can support, direct, and enhance performance is applicable to all forms of written theatre, as I myself have found out in my own performance and practical work.
